Who we are
The College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta (CRDHA) regulates the members of the dental hygienists profession according to the Health Professions Act legislation. The CRDHA’s primary role is to govern its members. The CRDHA sets professional standards for registered members and ensures that members meet those standards on an ongoing basis. If members fail to meet these standards, the college is also responsible for undertaking disciplinary action.
Accountable
In consultation with Alberta Health and Wellness the College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta (CRDHA) has developed Regulations and Bylaws. The Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice are consistent with the Health Professions Act.
Regulations address:
- requirements for registration and annual practice permits;
- continuing competence program and;
- authority to provide restricted activities.
Bylaws direct the day-to-day operations of the college.
Code of Ethics are a set of guidelines and principles that govern the conduct of practitioners.
Standards of Practice direct how professional services should be provided.

The CRDHA is the most reliable source for information about the practice of dental hygiene in Alberta. CRDHA provides information to members, the public and other health professions. This website contains some of the information; please contact CRDHA staff for suggestions about how you can access further information.
Collaborative
The CRDHA collaborates with individuals and organizations to achieve its goals. The CRDHA consults with the public, with its members and with other health organizations. The CRDHA involves its members and public members in the governance of the College. The CRDHA works with other professional organizations to create a culture of learning and a culture of safety, for example, the CRDHA is a member of the Federation of Alberta Health Professions in order to share knowledge and to work on joint initiatives such as the Continuing Competence Conference.
